Hailing from places as far afield as Truro and Coverack and ranging in age from thirty-something to eighty-something they unite once a week in Penryn to indulge and nurture their love of singing.
The women of Mabe Ladies Choir take their music making very seriously, constantly striving to achieve the highest artistic and technical standards. That said, they do spend an inordinate amount of time laughing! Whether it’s in the rehearsal room or the concert hall the emphasis is on fun & enjoyment, for Choir and audience alike. Manx Voices, formally the Manx Girls Choir, was formed 60 years ago by Harry Pickard, and the Choir has undergone many changes since then, including its name and the membership and audition rules which are now much more flexible. We live in the Isle of Man, a small island with a population of about 80,000 situated in the Irish Sea, between England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. It is a Crown Dependency which means it is a self governing possession of the British Crown. We are very proud of our parliament, Tynwald which claims to be the world's oldest parliament in continuous existence, dating back to 979. We also issue our own bank notes, coins and stamps and enjoy a unique perspective in terms of our language, (Manx Gaelic), history, music and art. It is a beautiful island with very varied scenery.
The Choir is SSA, (soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto) and has a membership base of around 40 members under the watchful eye of Musical Director, Angela Stew... less

One day Santa Claus
Did a most peculiar thing
He enrolled in music class
So he could learn to sing
He worked so very hard
And practiced all the day
Soon ev'ry song that Santa knew
He sang the solfege way
And he sang....
Mi mi mi, mi mi mi,
Mi sol, do re mi
Fa fa fa fa, fa mi mi mi
Sol sol fa re do
Mrs. Claus was quite impressed
And she, too, very soon
Teamed up with Santa Claus
To join him in his tune
The elves and reindeer, too,
Soon left their work and play
To be apart of Santa's Choir
And sing the solfege way.
And they sang....
Mi mi mi, mi mi mi,
Mi sol, do re mi
Fa fa fa fa, fa mi mi mi
Sol sol fa re do
Now ev'ry afternoon

Deck the hall with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Troll the ancient Christmas carol,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
See the blazing yule before us,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
While I tell of Christmas treasure,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses!
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Sing we joyous all together,
Fa la la la la la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la la la la la. less
