Founded in the 1670s, the Choir i... moreThe Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge is one of the finest collegiate Choirs in the world, known and loved by millions from its broadcasts, concert tours and recordings. This is the Choir’s 99th album to be released. Founded in the 1670s, the Choir is known for its distinctive rich, warm sound, its expressive interpretations and its breadth of repertoire. Alongside these musical characteristics, the Choir is particularly proud of its happy, relaxed and mutually supportive atmosphere. The Choir is directed by Andrew Nethsingha following a long line of eminent Directors of Music, recently Dr George Guest, Dr Christopher Robinson and Dr David Hill.
The Choir is made up of around 20 Choristers and Probationers from St John’s College School and 15 Choral Scholars who are members of St John’s College, its primary purpose being to enhance the liturgy and worship at daily services in the College Chapel. Directed for more than ten years by Michael Bawtree, its repertoire spans the Renaissance to the present day and has included the Scottish premieres of works by James Whitbourn, Hans Gál, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Richard Bush and Judith Bingham.
The Choir performs regularly in Glasgow and central Scotland, and has toured to France, Holland and Sweden, where it has formed links with other Choirs.
Recent BBC radio engagements have included William Walton’s Henry V Suite with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Sunday Worship live and Bryan Burnett’s ‘Get it On’ show live on BBC Radio Scotland. Since its founding in 1912, the St. Olaf Choir has set a standard in the choral art, serving as a model for Choirs of all levels. Ljubljanski madrigalisti mixed Chamber Choir is a renowned and successful Slovenian vocal ensemble, founded in 1991. In 2003, Matjaž Šček, the conductor of the group, was replaced by Andreja Martinjak, who performed regularly with the Choir and took part in national and international Choir competitions where the Choir as well as the conductor were winning numerous prizes and awards. The greatest achievements of the Choir include a gold plaque, awarded in the 20th Slovenian national Choir competition, Naša pesem (Our song) 2007 and the second place in the 9th international Choir competition in Maribor 2008, where the Choir also won a special prize for the best Slovenian Choir of the competition. In 2008 we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Slovenian composer Pavle Merkú with a special cycle of concerts. We also performed the fairy folk-tale by Robert Schumman, Der Rose Pilgerfahrt (The Pilgrimage of the Rose) – an oratorio.

We waited for a long time when we would meet again at the Halls of the Gdańsk University of Technology and sing together. Although maintaining the required distance and security measures, we managed to meet for a few rehearsals, which we decided to end with a concert :)
