The School's choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen Eisteddfod. When School was over, it seemed natural to carry on singing together as a choir, and the group's achievements included reaching the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and appearing on Opportunity Knocks. In the 1990's, the choir moved to Harrow and officially became known as Jubilate. Sarah Stroh took over as Musical Director in 1999 and since then the choir has grown significantly, doubling in size to its current membership of 43. There are still some original members of the choir, who have been singing together for more than 25 years. Our recent competition successes include winning the Barnardo's National Choir competition in March 2013 and the ladies choir, folk and popular music classes and runner-up with distinction in the sacred music class in the 2012 Mid-Somerset Festival. Our repertoire embraces a cappella music, from renaissance to contemporary, as well as choral works with keyboard and orchestral accompaniment. 2012 concerts range fom JS Bach St John Passion, with orchestra, to a programme of Scottish music (Carver to MacMillan) via Horrotorio!  

Founded in September 2000 by a group of friends from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, the choir comprises mainly of recent graduates and current students of Durham University, but also welcomes Singers from all over the North East, and includes ...  moreFounded in September 2000 by a group of friends from the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, the choir comprises mainly of recent graduates and current students of Durham University, but also welcomes Singers from all over the North East, and includes many of the region’s teachers. In May, the choir travelled to Italy to take part in the “Venezia in Musica” International Choral Competition. They won first prize in the secular music category, came runners up in the sacred music category, and received the “Outstanding Performance” prize for Bogorditsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov. They have been awarded “Choir of the Day” at all five BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year regional rounds they have entered, and in 2008 reached the adult category finals in the Royal Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, alongside the six other best adult choirs in the country. Diliup had orchestrated the music ...  moreThe Royal College School song written by late Principal H L Reed has been re-recorded by Kalasuri Diliup Gabadamudalige - an old Royalist, keeping in line with the original piano music score written by H L Reed himself. Diliup had orchestrated the music in terms of a classical orchestra and recorded it with the vocals of old Royalist Santhush Weeraman of B&S fame and the Royal College choir. The re-recording of the School song was an initiative taken by the Secretary RCU Manju Ariyaratne on the advice of the RCU Council together with the consent of Prinicipal Upali Gunasekra.  less
