Music from every Music epoch will be performed from serious to more pop/contemporary a cappella forms. This ensemble is offered every fall and spring semester, and satisfies the fine arts requirement when enrolled for a minimum of three semesters.

We ...  moreThe Island Consort Chamber Choir is a 20-voice community chamber Choir that first appeared in concert in late April 2007. Its repertoire is varied and loosely “classical”, focusing on sacred and secular Music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. This is an auditioned group with considerable Musical and choral experience, one that aspires to a higher standard of performance. Our members include amateur and professional Musicians, Choir directors and Music educators. Prospective members may audition from time to time as positions come open. Contact the Choir if you have an interest in joining. We perform mostly a cappella pieces, but many of our concerts include accompaniment by members of the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra and organ.  less

Bernard’s Music featured on the Horrible ...  moreBernard Hughes’s Music has been performed at major venues in Britain and abroad and received a number of broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. A CD of his choral Music, I am the Song, was released in 2016 on Signum Classics. Bernard’s Music featured on the Horrible Histories film Bill (2015), and he co-produced the album, Not Now, Bernard & Other Stories, performed Orchestra of the Swan and Alexander Armstrong, released in February 2020. In January 2020 Bernard’s choral Music was featured in a portrait concert by the BBC Singers, and in November 2020 one of the pieces from that concert, I Sing of Love, was nominated by the Ivors Academy for an Ivors Composer Award. With Bernard's kind permission I am releasing this video of my multitrack performance of a part of his mass, dating from around 2006.  less

This Choir is partnered with a non-profit organization called the New York Community Alliance for Sickle Cell Anemia Inc. We plan to use our concert venues for aiding this organization's cause. Our conductor John Hunter II is a young but competent conductor. He received his Master's in Choral Conducting from Mansfield University. Its first members were students of the Club's Music School and many of them participated in the Youth Choir of the city of Heraklion, under ...  moreTHALITAS vocal ensemble was first created in 1996 as an activity of the “APOLLON” Music Club by Giorgos Kaloutsis. Its first members were students of the Club's Music School and many of them participated in the Youth Choir of the city of Heraklion, under the direction of Mrs. Katerina Tzagkaraki. The name of the ensemble originates from Thalitas, an ancient cretan composer and legislator, after whom a street in Heraklion is named; in this street the first rehearsals of the ensemble took place. The ensemble's primary goal was to acquaint its members with the a cappella (“in the chapel”, without church organ accompaniment) vocal Music of the renaissance period. THALITAS began by studying and performing works of renowned composers of that era (e.g. Josquin des Prez, G. P. da Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso) to assist the learning process of its members' Musical studies. Im Mai 2010 konnte das junge Quartett beim Deutschen Chorwettbewerb den 1. Preis in der erstmals ausgeschriebenen Kategorie der klassischen Ensembles gewinnen und wurde damit über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannt. Diese Aufnahme stammt von einem Konzert im Lübecker Dom.
