The forty boys of the Choir are educated at Westminster Under School, part of London’s historic Westminster School, established before 1179 as a monastic School of the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter. In 1560 the School was re-founded by Queen Elizabeth I for boys to be “liberally instructed in good books to the greater honour of the state.” Ever since, the School’s history has been intertwined with the momentous state events and political turmoils of the capital. Old Westminsters dominated Parliament for most of the eighteenth century and the output of leading politicians, statesmen and soldiers has continued to this day. The School’s contribution to literature, philosophy and the arts has been immense, from such alumni as Ben Jonson, John Dryden, Henry Purcell and Christopher Wren to A.A. Milne, Adrian Boult, John Gielgud and Peter Ustinov, from Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Stephen Poliakoff to Julian Anderson, Ian Bostridge, Helena B... Paralia is a touristic seaside vilLAge situated on the west coast of the Thermaic Gulf and in the shadow of Olympus. The Festival has two parts: competitive and non-competitive. However, the character and the main concept of both parts is joining music, vacation, friendship and fun. The idea of the Festival is to bring the music closer to the people and to present the music on the streets and the squares of Paralia, Olympic Beach and Katerini. All Choir ensembles, regardless of the members’ gender and age can apply for participation at the Festival. As a result of the love they had for Choir music, they felt a need for a School Choir to be established. From the first year of its existence, Choir was trained and prepared for the Schools’ eisteddfods by two fellow students. In 1998, they both matricuLAted. In the following year these students continued with the Choir training and were compensated for their services by the School Governing Body (SGB). In 2001 they were snatched by nearby Schools that were willing to pay them better wages and the SGB had to look for other people who could assist with Choir training from the community. This continued until 2004, when the School employed a teacher who studied music at university. In 2009 another teacher, who studied music too, came and volunteered his services at the School. In 2010 the teacher was employed on a temporary basis by the Department of...
