A quick Google search of “Philippine History” will give you a peak at our rich history of pre-colonial kingdoms (rajahnates, sultanates, etc.) which began to rise about 900 AD. Prior to Christianization of the Central and Northern parts, and even prior to the Islamization of the Southern parts of the country — these Philippine kingdoms shared with its neighbori... less

Los Mareados (Translation)
Strange,
as if lit up,
I found you drinking,
pretty and ill fated;
You were drinking,
and in the din of the champagne
crazily you laughed,
so as not to cry...
Pity
I felt at finding you
because looking at you
I saw your eyes
shine
with an electric fire,
your beautiful eyes
that I adored so much.
Tonight, my friend,
with alcohol we're getting drunk;
I don't care if they laugh
and call us "tipsy."
Everyone has their sorrows
and we have ours.
Tonight we will drink
because we won... less

This song was written by Ralph Schmitt who (amongst other things) leads the Rodean Girls School Choir (Johannesburg). We had the pleasure of learning this from them at a workshop before a joint concert in 2010. If you hunt YouTube you can find several clips of them performing it magnificently. Great choir, Great tune. Thanks Ralph!
Opening Trio, Ali Orbaum, Sarah Pennington & Sam Burns

--Nou Se Limyè-- (We Are the Light)
Children of light, do not stay in the dark;
Truth and Love are stronger than the law.
from the beginning of time the word was spoken:
Darkness and evil had invaded the earth;
Everything was functioning in reverse.
the Lord decided to put order in disorder.
"the Lord said, let there be light: and there was light"
Light in the universe, light in the depths of our hearts.
So many good things in the beautiful flame of this light:
Awareness, development,
Understanding and compassion,
Truth and dignity,
Wisdom and justice,
Liberty and hope,
Love and happiness.
Children of light, do not stay in the dark.
We must shine for all the earth.
We must shine in all darkness.
We must shine, we ... less
