The choir performs concerts each semester and also sings at Remembrance Day ceremonies, convocation ceremonies, and other events on campus and in the community.
We are a volunteer, non-auditioned group open to all, but choir members are expected to regularly attend rehearsals and the semester retreat, and to practice their parts on their own time. We usually put up practice files under “Resources” (members-only access) so that you can download your part and listen to it on whatever portable music-playing device you own. No musical experience is needed, but the ability to read music is an asset (if you can't read music, we'll help you learn). less

For security reasons, we could not take footage but everyone who was present knows that the atmosphere was electric. An unlikely place to experience joy and community spirit, music brought together people from dramatically different backgrounds and gave them a common purpose. All proceeds go to Shelter Scotland.

The warmth of expression at the words 'Thy mercy, O Lord, held me up' achieves a consummate beauty so characteristic of Bairstow at his most deeply felt. A richly-scored bass solo is a notable characteristic of the work, and the grandeur of the choral writing gives more than a hint of the terrific Easter-tide Anthem 'Sing ye to the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously' that was the next year to follow from the composer's pen.
This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on SunDay 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by Dr Simon Lindley. The organist is David Houlder and the bass soloist is Quentin Brown.
Leeds Minster, formerly Leeds Parish Church, has a long and distinguished musical history. The list of organist... less

I would like to acknowledge the a cappella choir that I sing in, The Stairwell Carollers, and our director Pierre Massie, for their musical inspiration these past 25 years.
And with deepest appreciation to my brother Adam Rain and my friend Geneviève Lajoie for their invaluable support throughout my composing journey. less

Fair daffodils, we weep to see
You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
Has not attain'd his noon.
Stay, stay until the hasting Day
Has run but to the evensong,
And, having pray'd together, we
Will go with you along.
We have short time to stay, as you,
We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
As you, or anything.
We die, as your hours do, and dry away,
Like to the summer's rain,
Or as the pearls of morning's dew,
Ne'er to be found again. less

singer: Matthew Curtis
O doubts, dull passions, and base fears,
That harassed and oppressed the Day,
Ye poor remorses and vain tears,
That shook this house of clay:
All heaven to the western bars
Is glittering with the darker dawn;
Here with the earth, the night, the stars,
Ye have no place: begone!
