Water Ruminations is a setting of six poems by the thirteenth-century poet Rumi, in English translations from the Persian by Coleman Barks, for double choir and organ. The poetry sings of literal and spiritual connections between water and sky, a drop of water and human life, flowing water and love, drinking water and its container, the giddiness of spring and rolling seas, and the ocean's gifts and singing. Its images, from 800 years ago, speak to us with both vivid immediacy and transcendence. Homechoir is a new way of looking at learning music. You don’t need to be able to sing well or at all to take part – the teaching is one-way. You watch and sing along with Ben if you can, and are invited to take part in the live text chat with everyone else around the world. There is a vibrant and friendly social community among the choir. If you can’t join in live, then you can enjoy the music-making at any time as all our sessions are recorded and available for you to watch when you can, as often as you like. You don’t need to be able to read music, and where scores are needed, Ben will display them on screen to help you learn. The 21 classically trained outstanding vocalists of The Nathaniel Dett Chorale have shared the stage with internationally recognized artists such as Juno Award-winning jazz pianist Joe Sealy, Singers Molly Johnson and Jackie Richardson, and opera star Kathleen Battle and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble has performed for such luminaries as opera singer Jessye Norman and Dance Theatre of Harlem founder Arthur Mitchell. The Chorale has performed at events honouring world leaders Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, personality Muhammad Ali, and pianist Oscar Peterson and was the only Canadian ensemble invited to perform as part of the celebrations surrounding the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama in January of 2009.  less

It's a lot of fun! We welcome all levels of Singers ages 12 thru senior in high school and there is no audition required. We are part of the School of Rock program and this is a paid program.
