It was one of his most popular madrigals, as well as one of the most internationally famous songs of the period. It is apparently based on John Dowland’s “Flow, my Teares”. Like Dowland’s lyrics, these lyrics express an intense melancholy of someone whose happiness has been abruptly shattered and desires to not be saved from this dark despair. The speaker wishes his death by drowning in his despair, in his tears. The expression of melancholy, and notions of darkness, neglect, Time’s cruelty, spiteful age, were themes used by Elizabethan songwriters to prefigure the stark inevitability of death, and it remained a prominent feature of English literature and Music in the time of Elizabeth I and Shakespeare. "Digapoli" was the name of the small village where the workers who built the Cancano dam lived. The Cancano dam is located in Valtellina, in norther Italy.

The ensemble has a fascinating and diverse repertoire, most of which is original arrangements written by its members, some with humorous texts. The different programs also consist of traditional a-cappella arrangements. Among our different programs there are "Misa Criolla" with an authentic South American band; "Le Bouquet de Swing", rich harmonies and jumpy rhythms, well known jazz standards and new arrangements to pop songs; "American Harmony", in which the Israel Chamber Orchestra joins the octet in an American themed program; and our new program, Sgt. Pepper and the Fabulous Four. The VOCAL Octet has collaborated with Israel’s top Musicians, and has performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Israel Borochov & East-West Ensemble, composers Sasha Argov, Yoni Rechter and Menachem ...    less

Born from an experimental session for BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction in 2009, YANTRA’s vocal focal point is the intersection of seemingly incompatible and incomparable singing traditions. Combining the purity of a cappella with modern multi-tracking recording techniques, their rich vocal fusion explores the spiritual and folkloric Music from the traditional and ancient Musical heritage of Bulgaria, India and England.  less
