He invented the early British form of minimalism known as systems music, with his early "Machines". Humming And Ah-ing Machine is an innovative and fun composition by John White for unaccompanied SATB chorus. The work is made up of short repeated phrases that evolve and entwine, creating a hypnotic and exciting overall work. We performed this piece at a concert in St Michael's Cornhill, London, in 1983.  less

It was and still is a Chamber choir especially interested in the polyphony of the Renaissance, and particularly in the composer it takes its name from, although the choir does also interpret works from every period. Its members’ hard work and joint enthusiasm along all these years, under the direction of Antonio Peces, crystallise in the neat blend of the voices and the sensitivity that its interpretations instill. The group provides experience and a consolidated musicality, while exploring every facet of choral music, as well as the singularity of the great masters’ art. It strives to enrich the lives of its members through programs stressing musical aptitude, teamwork, discipline, self-confidence and personal growth. Music camps, social outings, concert tours and an annual, child-involved fundraiser are combined with weekly rehearsals and live performances to create the type of nurturing environment that enables members to mature musically and socially. The SCCC and its musical directors serve as mentors, coaches and friends to students in a variety of socioeconomic levels.  less

The "family" also includes older levels, a treble Chamber choir, a mixed young adult chorus, and a community adult chorus. The Junior and Intermediate Training Choirs (JTC and ITC) provide a program of sequentially developed skills which prepare choristers for admission into the Surrey Children's Choir. The training choirs perform annually at the Family Christmas Concert and Year End concert (held in May of each year). They also often compete at the Fraser Valley Kiwanis Music Festival, always with great results. The training choirs may also perform at various events in the community. The SCC, a treble-voice choir of boys and girls aged 12-18 is a consistent gold medal winner at local festivals, hailed by Gerald Van Wyck, Vancouver Community College professor as "one of the best children's choirs in Canada". Homechoir is a new way of learning music. You don’t need to be an accomplished singer to take part. Homechoir members watch and sing along with Ben - teaching is one-way so nobody can hear us but the neighbours! - and are also invited to take part in the live text chat with Ben and with fellow Singers around the world. There is a vibrant and friendly social community among the choir. If you can’t join in live, then you can still enjoy the music-making at any time. All our sessions remain available on YouTube after the live streams end for watching on catch-up when you can, and as often as you like.
