The work portrays the hot summer of a Western Australian wheat-farming scene. Grandage's piece goes to the heart of the landscape as does the original Poem. Heat, hot easterly breezes, the view from a rocking chair on an old verandah, sunburnt bones, running your hands across the wheat - all these images are described in the music. Voyces is a small choral ensemble based in Perth, Western Australia. They specialise in contemporary choral repertoire. This is a live recording from Voyces 'Australiana' concert from August 2012 at the Perth Town Hall. They are conducted by Dr. Robert Braham.  less
