It strives to enrich the lives of its members through programs stressing musical aptitude, teamwork, discipline, self-confidence and personal growth. Music camps, social outings, concert tours and an annual, child-involved fundraiser are combined with weekly rehearsals and live performances to create the type of nurturing environment that enables members to mature musically and socially. The SCCC and its musical directors serve as mentors, coaches and friends to students in a variety of socioeconomic levels.  less

Stephen Hatfield on Hard Shoulder: Written to honour the House of Compassion, a Toronto outreach to street people, Hard Shoulder is narrated by the street people themselves. Although there is no explicit language, the reality of life on the streets is still presented in an unvarnished way that hits audiences where they didn't expect to be hit. The struggle of the homeless, and of the people who wish to help them, is presented without platitudes, without sentimentality, and without easy answers, but the final message of the piece is humanitarian with a capital H.  less

The soloists are Anne McCambridge and Margaret Mann. Inclusive is the word which probably best describes Open Arts Community choir. It features people with disabilites and those without, from every section of the community in Northern Ireland. The age range is extensive, from seventeen to over seventy but most importantly members are united by their love of singing. In the World choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed choirs category. Also winning ...  moreIn the World choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' the champions competed in, the choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals.
