Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since! We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting Ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing, the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal Ensemble. The Ensemble performs masterworks of the choral-orchestral repertoire such as Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Orff's Carmina Burana, as well as opera choruses, a cappella repertoire, and works specially composed for them. Performances include world-renowned guest soloists and musicians. The Ensemble is directed by internationally acclaimed conductor and composer Steven Sametz. Lehigh University Choral Union has performed at New York's Carnegie Hall and has toured internationally in China, Portugal, Hawaii, Italy, Spain, Austria and Hungary. No audition is required but the ability to read music is helpful.  less
