Sung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London Town by Bob Chilcott and varied choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, ...  moreSung by the Fulham Children's Choir, Musical director: Christopher Wray, Piano: Marcus andrews and Charles Economou Songs and Cries of London Town by Bob Chilcott and varied choral cantata in five movements for STAB choir, upper-voice choir, piano duet, and optional percussion. the two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from boisterous cries of 17th century market vendors as once featured in 'the Cries of London' by Orlando Gibbbons. the second movement features the words of a Scottish poet, William Dunbar (c. 1460-c.1520), in which he praises the English capital, and includes the line 'London, thou art the flower of cities all'. Together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. This 'capital' cantata was written in 2001 for the Diamond Jubilee of the Barnet Choral Society, of which Chilcott is President.  less

Concerts by the group feature a cappella music of Scandinavia and the Baltics, as well as North-American co...  moreFormed in 2006 by conductor Michael Zaugg, voces boreales is an elite vocal ensemble, performing to great acclaim in Montreal and its surrounds. Concerts by the group feature a cappella music of Scandinavia and the Baltics, as well as North-American composers. Music by composers such as Mäntyjärvi, Daniel-Lesur, Rautavaara, Martin and Pärt are ideal showcases for the choir’s lush and full sound. Members of the group are dedicated to excellence in rehearsing and performing. With a repertoire consisting of 8 to 16-part music, the twenty singers are mostly performing as soloists. Now in its fifth season, voces boreales has already performed in a number of prestigious concert series, such as the National Arts Centre eXpres- sion series, Musique Chez Nous at Bishop's University, Mondial Choral Laval and the Montreal International Bach-Academy. the ensemble voces boreales is produced by the Montreal Choral Institute and appears in its various educational events, such as the Montreal Choral Masterclass.  less
