We aim to establish a strong group of singers who rehearse and perform regularly, predominantly a cappella choral works but sometimes with instruments and including some solo/small ensemble repertoire. We will be commissioning new works as well as exploring established repertoire and pieces by CoMA composers and associates. The group will reinforce as well as supplement the established CoMA Voices programme. Singers are expected to be confident singers with some sight reading experience, be prepared to tackle unusual vocal techniques and unconventional pieces. In addition we are frequently asked to sing at local events, weddings and celebrations. The Society was started in 1960, under our founder Gerald Brown, and we are still going strong. We are now led by James Gallagher, who has been working with us since 2009. We invite local young soloists and professionals to perform with us. Our repertoire ranges from 16th Century works to those of living composers and covers both major serious and popular works. Ci dedichiamo allo studio del repertorio corale sacro e profano a cappella e con strumenti ricercandone i diversi stili esecutivi . Solitamente proponiamo concerti con programmi tematici o in forma di spettacolo (la natura, l’acqua, la danza, Maria, I responsori, ecc…) per consentire al pubblico di fruire contemporaneamente della musica e dei suoi significati evocativi, religiosi, storico-culturali, aggregativi, ecc … Fin dalla nostra fondazione abbiamo svolto un’intensa attività concertistica e culturale promuovendo una costante divulgazione della musica polifonica attraverso concerti, spettacoli, lezioni-concerto, ecc.. e diversi momenti formativi con maestri di fama internazionale. Sin dalla sua fondazione, il coro è diretto dal Maestro Ciro Caravano, noto al pubblico come uno dei cantanti, ma anche produttore, arrangiatore e direttore del gruppo vocale Neri per Caso nonché direttore musicale del cantante Mario Biondi. Il gruppo esegue brani celebri di musica leggera italiana ed internazionale, appositamente rivisti e riarrangiati dallo stesso direttore, in chiave “a cappella” in modo da esaltarne l’originalità dei motivi e la ricchezza dell’armonia attraverso nuove chiavi di lettura e un pizzico di ironia, che è poi uno dei tratti distintivi di questa esuberante formazione musicale. This short, lively SATB piece is loads of fun and highlights the quintessential ...  moreThis is an arrangement of an Acadian folksong entitled “Marie Madeleine” (more commonly classified in the French-Canadian folksong repertoire as “Une petite vache noire”). This short, lively SATB piece is loads of fun and highlights the quintessential elements of the Acadian folksong tradition: podorythmie (seated foot-tapping), diddlage (mouth music), and the spoons. But, it also stretches the tradition to include more modern elements. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is just a simple folksong. It is a challenging and complex piece that reflects the innate musicality of this long-standing Canadian oral tradition. Though this folksong can be found in other parts of French Canada, I chose to feature the Acadian dialect in this rendition because it is emblematic of the role that language sometime plays in creating social inequity.
