Besides singing some of the most impor...  moreNamed after the latin name of the city of Lisbon, Grupo Vocal Olisipo began its activity in 1987. the group’s repertory is quite wide and eclectic and ranges from sacred and secular early music to contemporary works. Besides singing some of the most important Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, by composers such as Victoria, Palestrina, Byrd, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel and Bach, the group has also premiered several contemporary pieces and made first modern auditions of many Portuguese Renaissance and Baroque works. Christopher Bochmann, Ivan Moody, Bob Chilcott, Luis Tinoco, Eurico Carrapatoso and Vasco Mendonça are some of the composers who dedicated works to Grupo Vocal Olisipo. Grupo Vocal Olisipo attended several masterclasses led by some of the world leading vocal ensembles, such as the King's Singers and the Hilliard Ensemble and was coached in the performance of Baroque music by Jill Feldman. Siyabonga Dlamini and Sibusiso Sithole, with the primary objective (/s) of rehearsing and performing Choral music, providing musical services to the community when the need arises, to provide a musical home for all interested in the greater Pretoria and Johannesburg area and to promote the standard of Choral music. Secondarily Tswelopele aims to educate its members in the singing of all types of Choral music, arrange concerts for the general public to attend, perform Choral works with other choirs and participate in various competitions and music festivals in the community. the choir currently consists of 48 choristers. the choir being fairly young went to its first (TCMA) competition on October 18th 2015, winning first place in the development section. the choir has since went on to perform at Computeshare and Standard Bank respectively.
