It is a reminder of the peace that prayer and beauty can provide. Mater Dei, ora pro nobis! Translation Refrain: Hail, Mother of mercy, Mother of God, and Mother of pardon, Mother of hope, and Mother of grace, Mother full of holy joy, O Mary! 1. Hail, honor of mankind; hail, Virgin worthier than others, who surpass all virgins and in heaven occupy the highest seat of honor, O Mary! 2. Hail, happy child-bearing Mother, for He Who sits at the right hand of the Father, ruling heaven, earth, and sky, didst enclose Himself within Thy womb, O Mary!  less

After nearly two decades of performing the same version, my former high school director, Matt Wanner, reached out to me in 2026 with the opportunity to create a new arrangement of this cherished tradition. In writing this setting, I sought to create something both accessible and meaningful, while providing opportunities to feature students, whether graduating seniors or gifted soloists, in a special way. It is my hope that this arrangement will become a meaningful part of the Ensemble’s tradition and hold a special place in the hearts of its members for many years to come.  less

Byrd's Ave Verum Corpus appeared in his Gradualia, two volumes of liturgical polyphony published in 1605 and 1607. Primarily devoted to use within the major feasts of the church calendar, some of the included items in the 1605 volume do not belong to the main sphere of works. The Ave Verum Corpus is one of these. It is a popular work of Byrd's, utilising the well-known Latin text of the Eucharistic hymn. Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine, vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine, cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua...    less
