As the introduction states, Eric Whitacre's famous "Sleep" was originally composed to Rober... moreAs part of The Vocal Art Ensemble's "INKSPELL--Choral Music Inspired by Masters of Poetry" concerts, this piece started the 'modern poetry' section of the concert. As the introduction states, Eric Whitacre's famous "Sleep" was originally composed to Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", but when Whitacre realized the Frost estate was not releasing permission for musical settings of the poem, Charles Silvestri wrote the poem "Sleep" around the music Whitacre had written. To honor the inspiration the poem gave Mr. Whitacre, and to further honor all poets who inspire Choral composers, we presented this beloved piece with the original Frost lyrics. less
