The memories of the wonderful and exciting Years, the great musical and personal experiences gained while singing in the children’s choir motivated a group of former members to reunite and to found a female vocal ensemble – in January 2004, students, mothers and young professionals come together to sing for the first time as “Cantilena”. Prof. Elisabeth Ziegler, conductor of the “Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen”, was entrusted to be the artistic director of the new women’s choir. She was tempted by the possibility to go beyond the limits given by the repertoire of a children’s choir and to discover new choral literature with the now adult singers. Directed for more than ten Years by Michael Bawtree, its repertoire spans the Renaissance to the present day and has included the Scottish premieres of works by James Whitbourn, Hans Gál, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Richard Bush and Judith Bingham. The choir performs regularly in Glasgow and central Scotland, and has toured to France, Holland and Sweden, where it has formed links with other choirs. Recent BBC radio engagements have included William Walton’s Henry V Suite with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Sunday Worship live and Bryan Burnett’s ‘Get it On’ show live on BBC Radio Scotland. The choir features regularly in Raymond Gubbay’s Christmas Festival in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.  less
