Conductor: Ole Faurschou Performance at Lund Sacred Contemporary Music Festival 2018 in Allhelgonakyrkan in Lund. More info and score can be found on www.stefanklaverdal.com “See, darkness covers the earth” is built on a previous piece for bass clarinet (or cello) and computer called "One of the seven angels". The title is a quote from book of revelations, and "See darkness..." is in its turn a series of other quotes that the first title refer to in various ways. It turns out that the references to me felt very contemporary and had to do with the current trends in society and that meant that I could both recompose something old, use new old texts that referred to an old piece of mine and construct a very contemporary and important piece that may both say something about our time and give hope for a better future. The original piece was composed to Mattias Eklund First performed by Mattias Eklund a...    less

Inspired by the majesty and relentless power of glaciers, this composition uses them as a metaphor, transposing their might onto the people who, through their presence, shape us and leave an indelible mark. In each of us, these individuals are like giants who, much like glaciers, move mountains and sculpt valleys, paving the way for us to find our destiny. Through the simplest and most primitive elements of life, we find the essence of what shapes us day by day. It is in the everyday, in the elemental, where the strength that transforms us and prepares us to face the world’s challenges is hidden.  less

Find out more and purchase scores: http://jakerunestad.com/store/we-can-mend-the-sky World premiere performance by the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Dr. James Bass, conductor. Corinne Bach, soprano. Poetry by Warda Mohamed (14-years-old). About the work: My sister is an English teacher at the Minnesota International Middle School in Minneapolis which provides a safe and inclusive environment for East African immigrant students to learn (many of whom are Somali). Most of these students came to the USA to escape the violent civil war that has plagued Somalia since 1991. Seeking a better life for their children, these students' parents risked their lives to come to the USA - a valiant act of love. I wanted to tell their story through music and so I asked my sister to have her students write poems about their experiences leaving their home and coming to the USA. I received over 100 poems that contain passion, pride, emotion, and vivid stories of the sights and sounds ...    less
