"This a capella setting of a scriptural text in Spanish has been performed widely across the US, South America and Europe, including a performance at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and Carnegie Hall. The harmonic structure is lush and vibrant, tonally based but with colorful non-chord tones. It is contemplative in nature with a pace that makes the Spanish text very accessible for non Spanish-speaking Choirs. It ends with a short soprano solo floating above the Choir. The concert "ACH! PG Carnivalesque" under the patronage of Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech, attracted several hundred people who listened to daring performances of popular pop music hits. During the performance we heard choral arrangements of...  moreThe concert "ACH! PG Carnivalesque" under the patronage of Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech, attracted several hundred people who listened to daring performances of popular pop music hits. During the performance we heard choral arrangements of hits such as: "Dancing Queen", "Memory", "California Dreamin'" and "Maria". This time it was not Mozart or Bach, but ABBA, Queen and songs from the musical West Side Story that graced the walls of the Gdansk University of Technology in carnivalesque musical artistic creations. Jazz musicians performed along with the Choir, and the musical effects were accompanied by a unique lighting arrangement, which required appropriate space and audience arrangement. The more-than-hour-long performance by the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology, conducted by Prof. Mariusz Mróz and accompanied by musicians from the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, ended with joint singing, encores and a standing ovation.  less

In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the c...  more The Student Union Choir of the University of Turku (TYY Choir for short, established in 1987) is a mixed Choir of approximately 60 singers from all the faculties and even outside the university. In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the Choir’s conductor. The Choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. The Choir can be found performing in Turku as well as other cities many times throughout the year. Traditionally, there is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. The TYY Choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. The Choir represented Finland in the international Choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. The competition could not have gone any better as the Choir won in the category of mixed Choir and was given the award as best Choir. The Choir continually strives to sing at professional standards under the expert musical directorship of David Crown. The Choir has a varied programme throughout the year including charity concerts, festivals, workshops, Come and Sing events, CD recordings and a hugely popular Carol Concert.
