The mission of the Madison Youth Choirs is to create a community of young musicians dedicated to musical excellence through which we inspire enjoyment, enhance education, and nurture personal, musical, and social development by the study and performance ...  moreThe mission of the Madison Youth Choirs is to create a community of young musicians dedicated to musical excellence through which we inspire enjoyment, enhance education, and nurture personal, musical, and social development by the study and performance of high-quality and diverse choral literature. MYC brings together a membership of almost 400 families and offers youth between the ages of seven and 18 the opportunity to participate in eleven separate choral groups. Focused on drawing connections between music and the greater world, the program offers choristers musical and social education opportunities through weekly rehearsals, annual concerts, and music retreats. The curriculum, focused on thematic musical study, is presented in an environment of sharing, growth, and recreation, allowing MYC to teach discipline, build self-confidence, foster teamwork, and provide constructive activity and positive role models during formative years.  less

" - Orlando Gibbons (1583 - 1625) Program notes: A famous text also famously used by Gibbons himself for his own Madrigal, Hailstork here pays homage to the work's 16th-century roots. An early composition (written while in college) from the proflic composer, Hailstork combined his own language with his love for choral literature to create a piece reminiscent of the Renaissance with a modern flair. The harmonic language harkens back to a hexachordal modality of the 16th century, uses an unaccompanied SATB choir, and employs varied moments of imitative polyphony and homophony. Un delicioso y accesible arreglo de la canción folklórica tradicional inglesa para voces de SAB. Un acompañamiento de piano melodioso apoya las líneas vocales líricas y las ideas melódicas se transmiten entre las voces, lo que permite que todos pasen un rato con esta hermosa melodía. ¡Algunos momentos armónicos no tradicionales pero interesantes hacen de esta una edición que sus cantantes apreciarán y su audiencia no olvidará!
