The choir makes occasional vis... moreEmmanuel College, Cambridge has a choir of around 24 choral scholars, which sings at the choral services in the Wren Chapel during term. The choir is conducted by the Director of Chapel Music, assisted by two organ scholars. The choir makes occasional visits to other British churches and cathedrals, as well as an annual foreign tour, recent destinations have included USA, Mexico, Sweden, Thailand, Rome and Prague. Emmanuel College Choir has released a number of recordings, most recently a CD of works by the Edwardian composer E W Naylor, a former organist and Honorary Fellow of the College.

Every life needs aspirations—along with goals to help us achieve them. Our goals can be like the banks of a river, guiding the flow of our ambitions. Making plans and striving to accomplish them helps channel our efforts and energies toward the things that matter most to us.
But what about when we fail? How do we respond when, despite our earnest efforts, we don’t quite reach those high aspirations? In short, how do we deal with disappointment?

The three missing songs are composed to texts by Langston Hughes and Claude McKay; alphabetically they are titled African Dance (LH), Harlem Dancer (CM), and Misery (LH). Although the texts are in the Public Domain, the German translations by Anna Siemsen that Zemlinsky used are protected in the EU until 2037. Videos including the translations that would be broadcast to the world on a service such as YouTube are forbidden until then. However, those three songs may be performed in the USA until 2037 and worldwide thereafter.

Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece ha... moreErik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. for a long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try.
Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year.
Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted.
"As dawn breaks" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
