It is a Choir ensemble of about 25 people, mainly amateurs. They share an incredible passion for Music and are keen on spreading their positive singing energy. The Choir is known for its modern choral Music repertoire, consisting of songs from all over the world as well as pop Music masterpieces. The group was awarded a silver medal in pop Music category during 5th 'Music Everywhere Festival' in Gdansk in 2019. So far, the Choir has performed in several places in Poland, often the non-obvious ones, trying to make choral Music available to everyone. The Choir’s conductor, Zuzanna Popiołkiewicz, graduated from Conducting faculty at the Academy of Music in Gdansk. In 2012, as a representative of Poland, she led Music workshops for the American organization 'Singers of United Lands' in 23 US states, Canada, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Many members of the Choir are choral scholars, some are at Music college, and most hope to make a career in Music. Since its foundation by Ralph Allwood in 1984, the Choir have toured extensively in Europe, and have also appeared throughout the United Kingdom at venues great and small, including St John's, Smith Square and some of the country's most glorious cathedrals.  less

The Choir sings evensong every Sunday during term and performs in concerts organised by Somerville Music Society. Somerville Choir is currently being conducted by David Crown. He is assisted by the two organ scholars, Douglas Knight and Robert Pecksmith (http://www.robert-smith.org.uk ), and Choir manager Stefan Schwarz. Since David Crown took over as Director of Chapel Music in 2007, the Choir has been involved in two opera productions (Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas ' and Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice') as well as concerts in Oxford, Brighton, Wells, Swindon, Upton upon Severn and Steeple Aston. In recent years the Choir has also sung evensong at Southwark, Worcester, Winchester, Wells and Berlin Cathedrals. Also winning ...  moreIn the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' the champions competed in, the Choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals.
