There were nuts and cloves and berries but the crust it was stuck on with glue. There were caraway seeds in abundance, It would give yer a fine stomach ache 'Twould kill any man twice to be eatin' A slice of Mrs Hooligan's Christmas cake. As I sat in me window last evenin' A letterman came unto me. He'd a nice little neat invitation Sayin' "Won't you come over to tea?" I knew it was Hooligan sent it So I went for our friendship's sake And the first thing he gave me to tackle Was a slice of Mrs. Hooligan's cake.  less

He conducts this performance of his work "The Annunciation", scored for solo soprano and unaccompanied Chorus. The work depicts the revelation to the Virgin Mary by the Angel Gabriel that she will conceive a son to be the saviour of humankind. The Giovanni Consort is a chamber vocal ensemble based in Perth, Western Australia. The group performs a wide range of choral music from medieval to modern times and is renowned for its exquisite musicianship and attention to detail. This video was recorded at their December 2012 concert, "Hodie Christus" in the Dining Hall of St. George's College at the University of Western Australia. Open your hearts and hear, Hear and listen, my brothers: Both you and I are full of dreams; You help me and I help you. That is how we will come to build a world anew. “With many hands, the load is light." “One finger alone cannot eat okra.” Knowledge and wealth are goods of humanity That we must share in all friendliness. These are statements that bring happiness; Words of wisdom that make life harvest. We are, each one of us, seeds of eternity That sprout and bloom in our humanity. L...    less

The choir's size allows it to concentrate on performing the larger major choral works to great effect. The choir has also been invited to collaborate with the Philharmonia Chorus and the BBC National Chorus of Wales on many occasions in recent years to tackle some of the choral pieces requiring even greater choral forces such as Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, the Dvorak Stabat Mater and La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz. Many of these performances were under the batons of the choir's late Presidents Richard Hickox and Sir Charles Mackerras, and included concerts at the BBC Proms, broadcasts on BBC radio 3, BBC 4, and studio CD reco...    less
