I was immediately captured by the simple beauty of Patrick’s poem, and the mystery of the first line, “It will be the past.” I loved hIs vIsion and thought immediately that I wanted to compose Music for thIs poem. Mystery, joy, wonder. “Heaven” Is the winner of choral composition competitions sponsored by both the Manhattan Choral Ensemble and Georgia College. As the finale to the Vocal Art Ensemble's "INKSPELL--Choral Music Inspired by Masters of Poetry" concerts, we performed Jaako Maantijaarvi's first three Shakespeare Songs, culminating on our playful, crafty interpretation to thIs famous text from MacBeth....  Is).getParent().getNext().style.dIsplay='';$(thIs).getParent().style.dIsplay='none';">moreIsplay:none;">As the finale to the Vocal Art Ensemble's "INKSPELL--Choral Music Inspired by Masters of Poetry" concerts, we performed Jaako Maantijaarvi's first three Shakespeare Songs, culminating on our playful, crafty interpretation to thIs famous text from MacBeth. The women shed their shawls and toss them into the center to represent the ingredients being dropped into the bubbling 'cauldron'.
