The piece was written for the 50th anniversary of the Habaneras Contest in Torrevieja, Spain. The Musical writing has nothing of a traditional habanera. The constant habanera rhythm is not present but must be felt as an internal rhythm. What I have included is the alternation of minor and major modes so typical of habaneras. Our program has grown to 3 vocal jazz ensembles. The Music we perform represents a crossover of the jazz and popular Music idioms. The students in the KCKCC VJ program learn Jazz Education through a variety of methods. First of all, each of these students take private vocal jazz coachings weekly. They also perform Music by professional vocal ensembles, arrangements by well-known vocal jazz educators, and learn jazz and popular Music standards (both through the ensemble and in private coachings).  less

It is a chamber Choir dedicated to European vocal Music from the nineteenth century onwards. As its director, Pierre Louis Godeberge has given with the Groupe Vocal GYMEL numerous concerts in Paris and its metropolitan area, in Champagne-Ardennes, Touraine and Normandy. He has conducted both religious and secular a cappella repertoires, notably Slavic and Church slavonic Music. He has also premièred works by French contemporary composers (Bicalho, Maillé, Anders). In 2007, the ensemble was finalist at the national competition of the Florilège vocal of Tours.  less

With a large repertoire ranging from art to popular Music, and stretching from the medieval to the contemporary in style, this Choir gives many concerts throughout the academic year, both in Ireland and abroad. Following a competitive selection process each September, eighteen gifted students are awarded a scholarship, with recipients of the award coming from a range of academic disciplines across the university, from Music to Medicine, Law, Agricultural Science, Commerce and Engineering.
