During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. They have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international choirs and groups. Under the direction of Diana Clark since 2009, Children’s Choir consists of caring young musicians from diverse cultural heritages, ages 9-15 years old. Storytelling, joy of singing, connection and flexibility of performance are the core values of this group. The choir also loves to work with guest conductors and share with other choirs. They have recently been guest singers with Vancouver Chamber Choir. In the past years, Chamber choir Orfej has received a number of awards, which places them among the more prominent Slovenian choirs. Orfej has proven its high level of vocal performance in April 2010 at the prestigious Slovene national choir competition ‘Naša Pesem’ (i. e. ‘Our Song’). The choir scored 93 points, received the gold award, and the second prize in the category ‘mixed choirs’.

Only time will tell whether the dwsChorale will be revived, but David keeps composing anyway, so who knows....

While we don't require auditions, our welcome process is rigorous. This kind of singing is spiritual work and is deeply rewarding for those who are called to it.

Founded as a male choir in 1900, it became a mixed choir in 1907. The choir was conducted for more than four decades by its founder, the renowned choir conductor and composer Heikki Klemetti. The current artistic director, Esko Kallio (b. 1974), has conducted Suomen Laulu since 2002. The choir's repertoire consists both a cappella works and compositions works for choir and orchestra. Since 1921 the choir has maintained the tradition of performing the St. Matthew Passion by J.S.Bach every Maundy Thursday in St. John's Church in Helsinki. Suomen Laulu has made five recordings, the most recent of which was published to celebrate choir's centenary in 2000. The choir also has its own series of publications, the "Suomen Laulun ohjelmistoa", which contains several of the finest pieces of Finnish choral music.  less
