This SATB group presents members from across The length and breadth of The island ranging in age from 16 to 26 years. Dynamic, gifted and spirited are some of The words used to describe this group of vocalists and musicians. The JYC was founded by its principal director Gregory Simms, a member of The World Choir Council and National Coordinator for Music with The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission. The choristers met each oTher during Their nine-year education in fine arts as members of The St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig. Today The ensemble consists of tenors Christian Pohlers and Paul Heller as well as basses Felix Hübner, Lucas Heller and Lukas Lomtscher. Their repertoire ranges from late medieval mass songs to modern age works. The five young musicians attach great importance to The works of German Romantic composers, such as Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn Bartholdy, as well as to Their extensive repertoire of church music. The ensemble successfully collaborates with a number of oTher artists, such as The composer Manfred Schlenker(GER), who dedicated his motet Gott wohnt in einem Lichte to The quintet, on a regular basis. During this time The Choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally They have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for The “ATKV Applous” competition in The category for advanced, mixed high School Choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for The same competition. They were The only Choir in The history of The Director’s trophy who won The award 8 times and They were also The first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), Boys’- (twice) and girls’ Choir (once). They have also received double gold at The Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at The Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in Their category in more than one local competition. The Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's Choir of unauditioned primary School aged children which was part of a Choral programme with The Hutt Valley Singers. ...  moreThe Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's Choir of unauditioned primary School aged children which was part of a Choral programme with The Hutt Valley Singers. The Choir was such a success and those involved enjoyed it so much that it was decided to continue. The Choir is a training Choir with The children having opportunities to sing or speak solo lines and learn harmonies. Current members are aged between 4 and 12. The Harmonic Minors is The Major Minors Children's Choir's extension group. This is an auditioned Choir for older children and teens.  less
