Musically, Inspira incorporates a cappella, contemporary and show choir components to expose Youth to a wide range of music and performing opportunities locally, nationally as well as internationally. Inspira serves as a community outreach program, which empowers Youth to make a difference in their local and international community through a variety of programs, community service, activities and performances. Inspira is an active ambassador of the City of Calgary, its Western Heritage and Hospitality as well as its culture. Prof. Elisabeth Ziegler, conductor of the “Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen”, was entrusted to be the artistic director of the new women’s choir. She was tempted by the possibility to go beyond the limits given by the repertoire of a Children’s choir and to discover new choral literature with the now adult singers. From the very first moment of the foundation of “Cantilena” until today, Elisabeth Ziegler guides and supports the plans of the enthusiastic young women by sharing her extensive musical expertise. This four part chorus (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) is devoted to music of all styles, including Classical, Broadway and Contemporary tunes. these dynamic and talented singers range in age from 14-25, and include young women in gr.11 and higher, and young men with changed voices. the SYC annually participates in the Family Christmas Concert, and choreographed year end show. they also stage an Orchestra concert each spring, which has presented pieces such as Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Requiems by Mozart, Faure, Rutter, and Daley, to name a few.
