This is our first virtual Choir, created October-December 2020 on Dharug, Eora and Kuring-gai land. After performing Ola Gjeilo's 'The Ground' in our final concert in 2019, we were preparing it again for our 'Indomitable Spirit' concert in May 2020. Then, Covid-19 arrived. Like many Choirs, we kept going online, or outdoors when permitted. This film is a record of our year, made to remind ourselves that joy and connection are still available to us, despite distance and change. Fick) is an auditioned SATB Choir of up to 65 voices with a passion for presenting excellent choral music. TBC invites professional musicians, soloists, actors and other arts organizations to join in classical choral repertoire in 3 - 4 concerts per season. TBC organizes and participates in “Messiah for the City” and in many local Community events. TBC’s “Choral Scholars Program offers subsidy and training to singers aged 19 to 24. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7 to 9:30pm, September to May, usually at Kingston Road United Church. Auditions in September and January; the ability to read music and choral experience are assets. The Choir regularly performs at weddings, corporate events and massed male voice Choir events, enthralling audiences up and down the country, having also performed in Jersey, Ireland, Belgium, Germany and the USA. Choristers hail from all over North London and have raised substantial funds for national and local charities including the Paul Strickland Scanner Appeal, The Stroke Association, the RAF Benevolent Fund and Bentley Priory Museum. The familiar African American song, “Angels watching over me” is given cantus firmus treatment while a lilting African lullaby, "Abiyoyo" gently sways around it. The Bantu song, "Abiyoyo" is traditionally sung at bedtime as a song to entrance night time monsters into a dancing state; mother and father can then chase the monsters away so baby can safely sleep.
