text: Keats (from Ode to a Nightingale)
Darkling I listen; and, for many a time
I have been half in love with easeful Death,
Call'd him soft names in many a musèd rhyme,
To take into the air my quiet breath;
Now more than ever seems it rich to die,
To cease upon the midnight with no pain

VI) of the Requiem that I composed in 2007, as performed by the Orlando Chamber singers under the direction of Gregory Ruffer on May 18, 2008. I had wanted to write a requiem for quite some time, having been swept away by the Requiems of Brahms, Faure, Rutter, Durufle, Mozart and Daley.
"Life's work well done,
Life's race well run,
Life's crown well won,
Now comes rest."
--- Edward Hazen Parker
If [they] have given you delight
By aught that [they] have done,
Let [them] lie quiet in that night
Which shall be yours anon:
And for that little, little span
The dead are borne in mind
Seek not to question other than
The [deeds] [they] leave behind.

Individual song parts recorded by the choristers using their own equipment following lead videos made by our Director, Pierre. Pierre then put together the video using Final Cut Pro.
A message from the Director:
"Christmas 2020 is the first in our 43-year history where we haven’t been able to stage live concerts, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still sing. So, after planning, rehearsing and recording, we are proud to present Ô nuit - one selection from our Virtual Christmas Concert of 6 carols. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nstkQZ9-5Gs
We hope you will enjoy our renditions of old favourites, some in new settings by our director, along with a few lesser known pieces from our carol archives.
I cannot be more proud of my musical colleagues for forging through the complex logistics of putting these videos together. I thank them for their loyalty to our fans and their fellow Choir members, and for their diligence in pr... less
