We sing most typ...  moreWe are a choir of about 40 people, based in the City of London near St Paul’s Cathedral. 60 years after our foundation in Hanover Square, we are still making great music and continuing to attract some of the liveliest people in London. We sing most types of choral music, and have occasionally dipped our toes into both jazz and folk repertoire.  

The Junges Vokalensemble Hannover was founded in 1981 by its artistic director Prof. Klaus-Jürgen Etzold. The choir consists of about 60 female and male Singers. Many of the members are active and former students of the University of Music, Drama and Medi...  moreThe Junges Vokalensemble Hannover was founded in 1981 by its artistic director Prof. Klaus-Jürgen Etzold. The choir consists of about 60 female and male Singers. Many of the members are active and former students of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hannover, but other professions are represented as well, and all Singers are united in their wide choral experience and their joy in singing challenging works together. The performance of a wide range of a cappella works, some of them quite unknown, forms an important emphasis of the choir. In addition to sacred and secular a cappella music of the 15th century until today, the choir performs cantatas, masses, oratorios, and passions. Many compositions were broadcast for radio stations or published on CD. The choir has recorded ten CDs and performed several world premieres of contemporary compositions, e.g. by Büsing, Dinescu, Fuchs and Wangenheim. We are currently around 50 ambitious amateur Singers between 18 and 50 that share their love for choir music. Our biggest success was winning the German National Choir Competition in 2010 in the category Jazz vocal et cetera - a capella.

World-class, professional Canadian soloists enjoy performing with with the choir time and again. Each season, the choir presents four or five concerts, incorporating a blend of repertoire from gospel to sacred to pop to oratorio. Classical highlights include St. Matthew Passion, Elijah, the annual Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Bach's B Minor Mass, which was a crowning achievement for the choir’s 10th and 20th anniversaries. Other popular concerts have featured the musical and comedic talents of Natalie Choquette, the famous and charismatic Michael Burgess, and the stirring sounds of spirituals under the direction of Brainerd Blyden-Taylor, whose own professional Chamber choir, The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, headed for Washington to join the celebrations around President Obama’s inauguration.  less
