Founded in 1981 by Canadian Michel Marc Gervais, Pro Coro Canada is a resident Ensemble at The Francis Winspear Centre for Music. In addition to a subscription concert series in Edmonton, The choir performs regional concerts in surrounding Alberta centres...  moreFounded in 1981 by Canadian Michel Marc Gervais, Pro Coro Canada is a resident Ensemble at The Francis Winspear Centre for Music. In addition to a subscription concert series in Edmonton, The choir performs regional concerts in surrounding Alberta centres, and runs a touring program of choral education for primary and secondary schools. Pro Coro has performed at The Toronto International Choral Festival (1994 and 2002), The 1988 Olympic Arts Festival, and Canadian Voices (2003 landmark series of concerts celebrating 50 years of professional choral singing in Canada and R. Murray Schafer’s 70th year). The choir has commissioned dozens of new works, The majority by Canadian composers. The twenty-four voices of Pro Coro Canada have been shaped by some of The finest choral conductors in The world, including Gervais, Anders Eby (Sweden), Søren Hansen (Denmark), Agnes Grossmann (Austria), and Richard Sparks (USA). The choir's founder and artistic director is Maestro Zakar Keshishian. The choir’s pianist is Mrs. Kamila Keshishian. The choir has a multilingual playlist which extends from Armenian traditional folk songs to modern Armenian or non-Armenian songs. These songs are performed in different ways: - A capella - Accompanied by The piano - Accompanied by The Armenian folk traditional band - Accompanied by a modern contemporary band. Many Armenian musicians from Armenia enrich The choir's repertoire with Their unique and creative works. The choir members are composed of university students and secondary classes students in Armenian High Schools, as well as young Armenians in The work force. The choir has been a finalist in both The CBC choral competition for amateur choirs and The International Choral Kathaumixw in Powell River, British Columbia, and participated in The non-competitive Festival 500 in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It has also been The guest choir at Saskatchewan Sings, and sang at The installation of Lynda Haverstock (a former member) as Lieutenant-Governor of Saskatchewan. In 2010, The choir performed at Podium, The biennial conference of The Association of Canadian Choral Communities, held in Saskatoon. The choir’s repertoire has been rich in variety since its establishment, and Canadian music has always been an important component of its programming. As These things do however, The ...  moreThe New 4tet is a group of four friends, Gemma, Emma, Gary and Noel, who as very experienced choral singers decided to meet once in a while to drink wine, chat, socialise, and do a bit of singing togeTher, just for fun. As These things do however, The project has started to grow arms and legs, and we became available for The occasional bit of singing in public when we feel like it. Since Then our performances have included singing in Glasgow Art Club, and in Edinburgh for The Royal College of Physicians. Based in The west of Scotland, we have all sung togeTher in a prominent Glasgow choir, but The New 4tet gives us a chance to enjoy The much more intimate sensations of singing one to a part. All four of us have been involved in The music industry to a greater or lesser degree, and we all sing to a very high Standard and love performing.
