The School's Choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen Eisteddfod. When School was over, it seemed natural to carry on singing together as a Choir, and the group's achievements included reaching the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and appearing on Opportunity Knocks. In the 1990's, the Choir moved to Harrow and officially became known as Jubilate. Sarah Stroh took over as Musical Director in 1999 and since then the Choir has grown significantly, doubling in size to its current membership of 43. There are still some original members of the Choir, who have been singing together for more than 25 years. Our recent competition successes include winning the Barnardo's National Choir competition in March 2013 and the ladies Choir, folk and popular music classes and runner-up with distinction in the sacred music class in the 2012 Mid-Somerset Festival. Celebrating world music and arts Promoting multi-cultural awareness Supporting children's health and education projects in The Gambia, West Africa As well as hosting an annual World Musicand Arts Festival and the Choir we also run a weekly West African Drumming workshop. Both groups enjoy performing at our own and other local community events and festivals.

Special...  moreMUNDO AFRIKA is the award-winning world music Choir based at Formby High School, in Merseyside. Over the past 12 years, we have trained five generations of young performers from across the School as part of our extra-curricular music programme. Specialising in acappella African vocals, our performances are enhanced with dynamic percussion and traditional dance. Many arrangements are created by the group's Musical Director, Mr Steve Cook, and by the students themselves. Our repertoire includes a range of traditional and contemporary African songs in a variety of languages. Over the years, this outstanding group has developed a reputation for thrilling, breathtaking and energetic performances at School concerts and further afield.
