Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Book of Common Prayer version 1662) set to music for six part mixed Voices SAT-SAT) The title of this work (Canticula Ursae Minoris/Songs of the Little Bear) comes from the origin of the melodies: Many years ago I wrote a...  moreMagnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Book of Common Prayer version 1662) set to music for six part mixed Voices SAT-SAT) The title of this work (Canticula Ursae Minoris/Songs of the Little Bear) comes from the origin of the melodies: Many years ago I wrote an "Oratorio" based on Winnie the Pooh (The Expotition to the North Pole) and gave each character little melodic leitmotifs, such as "Sing ho for the life of a bear" (which becomes "to be a light to lighten the Gentiles" in the Nunc Dimittis), "They all went off to discover the pole" (which is the initial theme of the Magnificat) and "What I say, said Eeyore, is that it's unsettling" (which becomes the "Glory be to the Father" section at the end of each canticle) The original and much simpler "oratorio" work, called Poohratorio of course, may be published once AA Milne goes into public domain (2031).  less

We are open to all singers with no auditions and previous experience of contemporary music is not needed. We work mainly, though not exclusively, from music, some of which is unconventionally notated. Most of our work is a capella and the focus is on ensemble singing. One objective is to expand the contemporary amateur vocal repertoire, which is less developed than the instrumental repertoire. We work with composers and students, commissioning works and showcasing material for use by others.  less

No membership or previous experience is necessary, although an ability to read music would be an advantage in our sometimes fast-paced rehearsals. Just turn up and pay £10 on the door. Newcomers are always welcome at any time of the year and will enjoy their first session at the discounted price of just £5.

Our programme varies from stunning ma...  moreHart Voices is a mixed voice Choir based in Fleet, Hampshire which achieves a high-standard of singing from a non-auditioned Choir. We perform four concerts each year across three terms running from September to July. Our programme varies from stunning major choral works to satisfying chamber music programmes and the occasional light programme of popular numbers! Singers are drawn not only from Fleet and the surrounding area, but also outlying towns including Guildford and Basingstoke. Choir membership is currently around 50 Voices, many of whom have sung with the Choir for several years. The combined experience and enthusiasm enables us to explore new musical horizons - both in repertoire and venue. We aim to broaden our experience, strive for quality and musicality in our performances and involve young singers wherever possible. We are resident at St. Matthew's parish church in Chapel Allerton. We rehearsal three times a month, on a Friday evening and sing four services a month, including Evensong on the first Sunday of every month. We also often host come and sing days and various workshops, our two most recent projects have been on Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri and Mozart's Requiem.
