Recorded live on December 9, 2011, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Concert choir ensemble of the Girl choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson.
The joik is a unique form of cultural expression for the Sami people in northern Scandinavia. Each joik is meant to reflect a person or place. This does not mean that it is a song about the person or place, but that the joiker is attempting to transfer "the
essence" of that person or place into song—one joiks their friend, not about their friend.
This joik is the essence of a young boy's dream of riding through the snow on the back of a reindeer. less

The choir continues to recruit members from the department of Music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years.
The American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new Music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s Music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire.
Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the choir’s firm position in Norway’s Musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern Music. Schola Cantorum has a varied repert... less
