Cape Town Youth Choir (formerly Pro Cantu): "Ubi Caritas" Conductor: Leon Starker Composer: Paul Mealor (b. 1975) Performed at Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium, Cape Town (16th July 2013) in a joint concert with the Whiffenpoofs of Yale Ubi Caritas ...  moreCape Town Youth Choir (formerly Pro Cantu): "Ubi Caritas" Conductor: Leon Starker Composer: Paul Mealor (b. 1975) Performed at Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium, Cape Town (16th July 2013) in a joint concert with the Whiffenpoofs of Yale Ubi Caritas Paul Mealor (b. 1975) Modern Classical Welsh composer Paul Mealor originally wrote this piece as the First movement of his Rose Cycle with title and text 'Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal'. His refashioned version with the famous Latin text Ubi caritas et amor was commissioned by Prince William and premiered by the choirs of Westminster Abbey and her Majesty's Chapel Royal, conducted by James O'Donnell, at the Royal Wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. Mealor uses a combination of a plainchant style and misleading harmonic suspensions similar to those of Eric Whitacre or Morten Lauridsen. Mealor's setting of Ubi caritas is reminiscent of the original Gregorian antiphon melody - ...    less
