Leach, perform sacred and secular music from the African and African-American choral traditions. The choir, founded in 2005, is composed of alumni of the Essence of Joy choir of The Pennsylvania State University. EOJAS has performed extensively in locations such as Pennsylvania, Alabama, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington D.C., Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. EOJAS is an official Alumni Interest Group (AIG) of the Penn State Alumni Association. EOJAS' mission is to learn, present, and promote African and African-American sacred and secular music in an effort to entertain, inspire, affirm and unify the worldwide community. The choir is a non-profit corporation registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a tax exempt organization as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Tax Code. What began as a small group of friends who were passionate about choral singing is now a well-established enterprise which is becoming a benchmark in Spain and abroad, as endorsed by the stream of prizes and invitations and the public and critical acclaim. The definitive point of this international recognition came in 2009, when the choir took part in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Tours(France) after having triumphed in all the classes in the competition in Guido d’Arezzo (Italy) the previous year. With the common aim of enjoying choral music, and sharing that enjoyment with others, this project includes an adult choir of 40 mixed voices and a children’s choir (‘Los Peques’) with 50 members. It has since grown from a small choral group to a self-run community choir with a wide ranging repertoire, performing music that b...  moreKoruso!, meaning chorus in Esperanto, began in October 2008 as a Southwark Council initiative to promote community cohesion. It has since grown from a small choral group to a self-run community choir with a wide ranging repertoire, performing music that bridges cultures and unites faith traditions. The project won an ABC award in December 2009 at the Royal Society for the Arts and was cited by the judging panel as ”an excellent, innovative way of bringing people together through a shared passion for music”. Koruso! host performances at least twice a year and to date has performed at a variety of venues across its home borough and beyond. Members come from all walks of life and all across Southwark. We enjoy singing together every Thursday from 6:30pm at Oliver Goldsmiths Primary School, Peckham Road. New members are always welcome - particularly tenors and basses.  less
