Formed in 2017, the members come from the island of Ireland and beyond, encompassing a huge range of musical e...  moreM'ANAM is one of the most exciting new Vocal Ensembles to emerge in recent years, growing naturally from the ground-breaking choral group ANÚNA. Formed in 2017, the members come from the island of Ireland and beyond, encompassing a huge range of musical experiences. The musical connection of the group to Ireland is deep and spans all the traditions present here. The songs and texts date back as far as the Viking raids on Ireland in the 9th century, through to music created by the men themselves under the direction of their Artistic Director Michael McGlynn. This year the group release their debut album, "M'ANAM" in the Autumn, and are featured artists on the opening track "Clarity" of the latest album by acclaimed Japanese jazz-rock Ensemble Mouse on the Keys whose 3rd album "tres" was released this May to universal acclaim. Their first digital single "Bandó Ribineann" is released this June.  less

We've been singing together for a number of years and have developed a relaxed, friendly style that's as much fun to listen to as it is to perform in. We have performed at a number of venues across London and the South East, and are continually expanding our repertoire and our circle of friends.

The music was devised to short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on...  moreSimon Lindley's setting of 'Ave Maria' - under the title of 'Litany for Mary' - was produced originally as a setting for upper VOICES. The music was devised to short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on Lady Day - the Feast of the Annunciation - in March 1979. Its accompaniment owes much to the setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by choirs of all traditions, especially children's choirs. Eventually, a version of the piece for four-part choir emerged during the early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of the BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here. This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by the composer.
