It is supported by a smaller, auditioning Fulham Camerata Ensemble which is made up of professional and semi-professional Singers, allowing the main Camerata to tackle exciting repertoire and maintain high musical standards while fostering the careers of young professionals. The choir also offers choral scholarships to promising young soloists which provides vocal support for the amateur choir, and fosters career development for the scholars. The amateur and ensemble groups come together for at least three main concerts a year with additional Christmas concerts, sometimes with orchestra. The choir welcomes new members at the...  moreThe Gettin’ Higher Choir seeks to embrace and celebrate humanity’s highest aspirations through music, welcoming people of all ages and cultures. We are not associated with any particular religion or spiritual path. The choir welcomes new members at the beginning of each season in September and February. There is no audition, and no vocal experience is required, just a desire to sing in harmony with others. Our aim is to re-integrate singing into the daily routines of life. We sing for the pure joy and pleasure it gives us, in an atmosphere that is fun, relaxed, and accepting. Our repertoire consists of both traditional and new songs from many cultures. The majority are sung a cappella (unaccompanied) in 4-part harmony. The choir is divided into three chapters, each practicing the same material on either Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Called a “mighty fortress of skill” by the Washington Post, the Wartburg Choir is one of three college musical ensembles that tour internationally on a triennial basis. Beyond tours, the choir receives invitations for special appearances in the United States and abroad, most recently to participate in the December 2011 White House Holiday Concert Series. As part of that trip to Washington, D.C., the choir also sang at the National Cathedral’s Bethlehem Prayer Service, which was simulcast worldwide. In 2006, the choir performed with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague at the invitation of Maestro Paul Freeman, CNSO music director and chief conductor, who had attended Wartburg Choir concert at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. In addition we have a choral scholarship programme for music students. We are led by Jonathan Wikeley, our Director of Music and Assistant Organist, Emma Howarth. We sing 3 out of 4 Sundays at All Saints Church Fulham at both the 9:30am Sung Eucharist and 6pm Choral Evensong. We have weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays at 8pm. We always welcome new members.
