Among the many figures carved on medieval cathedrals, one may find examples of foliate heads—a figure in which leafy foliage sprouts and elaborately ornaments a frieze, façade, or column. This figure is known as "The Green Man" and was mainly a northern European and Celtic symbol of the regeneration of life, a symbol of May, and the return of spring.
The Eostre Sun
It cuts my eyes
Open to the wind and rain
All around, the Earth breathes deep
I come alive again
I am the Green Man of the woods
The wounded and the broken land
I am the fire in the red stag's eye
The touch of lover's hand
Of a lover's hand
Oh, let me speak
Lend me your tongue
To sing the trees and streams
Sing the dark blood of the hills
The Moon ... less

Tell me where is fancy bred,
Or in the heart or in the head?
How begot, how nourished?

With gazing fed; and fancy dies
In the cradle, where it lies.
Let us all ring fancy's knell;
I'll begin it -- Ding, dong, bell.
Ding, dong, bell. less

Translation (Romanian):
Sun and stars, many tiny ones
A game of light on the mountain peak,
The snow has melted easily,
It flows clearly towards the spring.
The warm wind carried the spring,
The doe once again leaps through the valleys.
She drinks from the pure, crystal river
That pours itself smoothly into the sea;
Springtime is fully born,
The sea is rising, waves with foam,
Migratory birds are gathering,
A siren sings sweetly to them, "la da lo ..." less

She piped for us and we would not dance;
