The composer writes: "I wanted to make a piece about the creation story but I didn't want to highlight one religion's or culture's narrative over another."
"It was important for me to try to find something universal, something present in all stories, or common to all cultures. I hit upon the idea of making a kind of checklist of everything that needed to be created to get the world to this point, without each individual culture's stories or myths or exoticisms. I went back to the first chapter of Genesis, to see what I could get out of my own culture's story, and I stripped away all the descriptions, adjectives, connectors and motivators. All that is left of Genesis in my text are the nouns, leaving a dispassionate list of everything created, in the order in ... less

A week-long festival of music, friendship and discovery awaits! Highlights will include a final night Gala Concert in Worcester's magnificent cathedral, featuring the World Premiere of a specially commissioned work from UK composer Bob Chilcott (Five Days that Changed the World with words by Charles Bennett), individual choirs' concerts in venues in and around the historic city of Worcester, sight-seeing trips and activities for visiting choirs, Welcome Concert in the cathedral, and a concert for participants given by a leading UK vocal group.

Hallelujah Chorus - Hollybank Trust - Huddersfield - Sat 12/5/12 - Flash mob
Huddersfield Piazza on Saturday 12/5/12 @ 11am - A group of Singers from the Gledholt Male Voice Choir, Marsh Ladies Choir and other choirs from as far a field as Cheshire and Harrogate plus a few willing Hollybank trust staff surprised the onlooking sho... moreHuddersfield Piazza on Saturday 12/5/12 @ 11am - A group of Singers from the Gledholt Male Voice Choir, Marsh Ladies Choir and other choirs from as far a field as Cheshire and Harrogate plus a few willing Hollybank trust staff surprised the onlooking shoppers by performing an impromptu performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.
The rousing performance was part of Gledholt MVC's Gala day which included performances from Elvis, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Pipe Band and also a Zumba class. There was also a concert in Huddersfield town hall in the evening. Money collected on the day went to local charity - The Hollybank Trust - whose website can be found below...

Out Aloud is Sheffield's Gay choir. It was formed in 2006 and enables lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgendered people in Sheffield to enjoy singing as a community. There are no auditions and members dont need to be experenced Singers or read music.
