We welcome people of all nationalities and faiths, who want to experience The joy of singing and exploring music as a way of building community based on love and respect. The Choir performs several major Concerts each year; its Christmas and Spring Concerts in Amman are highly anticipated events. Dozan wa Awtar’s repertoire includes a wide range of sacred music, from Byzantine hymns through The Chorale classics of Western music to The present day and Islamic anasheed. The Choir also enjoys performing secular music, including folk songs from around The world, Broadway hits and arrangements of popular, contemporary music in many languages. A sub-group of The Choir, called “Dozan,” is specializing in performing traditional and contemporary music in Arabic. We are a mixed-voice Choir of around 30 singers, performing a wide variety of secular and sacred "classical"; Choral music. We mainly sing a cappella, and tend to focus on lesser-known older works, and modern repertoire, often from living composers. However, this is by no means exclusive! The Choir sings three main Concerts per year, with a charity carol Concert just before Christmas. We are also a sociable bunch, with regular social events and a number of 'spin-off' groups.  less

I have given this song The sub-title: "A Crazy Choral Etude for Rolled Rs and Perfect 5ths." It is meant, no pun intended, to be a musical lark, great fun for a Choir to sing, rolling Rs like crazy, with no holding back. NB: One day I woke up to The realization that I had independently written four Choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group Them togeTher into a Choral suite that I have called "The Ottawa Four Seasons Suite." "Let's sing, it's Spring!", with its rousing coda section, works perfectly as The closing number of this suite. We train togeTher in vocal and Choral skills as part of every session and want to explore our own sound as well as that of our Choir's. We have a strong Folk influence and a variety of pieces that keep us challenged and growing. Directed and trained by singing teacher and Choir coach Sandra Smith (www.singingandbreathing.co.uk) Throughout The pandemic we kept singing and did a short but very fun Homegrown Harmony project where all singers participated in a small group piece or a solo and recorded it. This four part chorus (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) is devoted to music of all styles, including Classical, Broadway and Contemporary tunes. These dynamic and talented singers range in age from 14-25, and include young women in gr.11 and higher, and young men with changed voices. The SYC annually participates in The Family Christmas Concert, and choreographed year end show. They also stage an Orchestra Concert each spring, which has presented pieces such as Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Requiems by Mozart, Faure, Rutter, and Daley, to name a few. This year, The SYC looks forward to singing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The Youth Chorus joined The senior and chamber Choirs in Their 2009 tour to The UK. They were ecstatic to receive 8th place standing in The Mixed Voices category at a festival that boasts participants from over 50 different countries. We are a music group from Tembisa, in Gauteng. The group was founded in 2020 and it hosted it first event in October 2020. We released our first single track with Umlazi Levites Choir on 26 March 2021. We are available on all major social media platforms.
