The group is made up of twenty-somethings (mostly!) who are young professionals living in London. Founded by Singers and beatboxers from the likes of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Last Choir Standing and Britain's Got Talent favourites Out of the Blue, the group’s repertoire spans from Billy Joel to the Black Eyed Peas, via pop, jazz, barbershop, rap and original composition as they offer a programme of sumptuous jazz arrangements, genre jumping covers and assorted originals. Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, The Refrains enjoyed a sold-out London debut at The Forge, Camden. Recent gigs have included The London A Cappella Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Silver Bullet and private events. Patrick McCarthy founded the Colchester Bach Choir in November 1992 when he agreed to train a choir to perform a baroque programme with Frederick Marshall and the Lavenham Sinfonia in Long Melford Church. The success of this project led to a charity perfo...  morePatrick McCarthy founded the Colchester Bach Choir in November 1992 when he agreed to train a choir to perform a baroque programme with Frederick Marshall and the Lavenham Sinfonia in Long Melford Church. The success of this project led to a charity performance of Messiah co-directed by Patrick and Peter Holman at the Swinburne Hall, Colchester Institute, which was part broadcast by Classic FM. Since then the choir has presented three or four concerts each season in Colchester (usually at St. Botolph's Church), often featuring baroque music. There are more than 150 works of various times (Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism and music of the twentieth century) and styles (choral concerts, choral miniatures and songs, spirituals, songs of different nations of the world, folk songs, Christmas music) at the repertoire of our choir. Modern Belarusian music takes a large part of our repertoire, thanks to that we are happy to open Belarus to other nations.

Da tempo impegnato in attività concertistica e nello studio del repertorio corale sacro e profano a cappella e concertato, è stato invitato a numerosi Festival e Rassegne Nazionali ed Internazionali, con grandi riscontri di critica e pubblico. Dal 2015, ha realizzato, con l’Orchestra barocca S. Teresa dei Maschi, prime esecuzioni in puglia di grandi opere barocche storiche: Bach Johannes Passion, Oratori di Pasqua e Natale; Monteverdi Vespro della Beata Vergine. Importante l’impegno nella ricerca ed esecuzione di musica di autori pugliesi inedita: Fago Salmi e Magnificat; Nenna, Felis, Radesca villanelle e madrigali; Cafaro Responsori. Dallo stesso anno è nata la collaborazione con l’Etichetta discografica Toccata Classics di Londra per la registrazione di una collana di produzioni dedicate agli autori pugliesi.  less

New members are always welcome. No auditions required though our director may ask you to sing to verify your placement in the correct voice range. See the Bulletin Board for details. GGCC generally performs at least two concerts per year, a Winter/Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert.  

Comprised of more than 20 experienced Singers. All have a wealth of vocal experience. Many have sung in barbershop choruses and quartets. Others have strong choral backgrounds.

The University Choir of UTPB is an advanced select ensemble that performs masterworks from the choral canon as well as contemporary works from around the world.
