Somerville Choir is currently being conducted by David Crown. He is assisted by the two organ scholars, Douglas Knight and Robert Pecksmith (ofollow">http://www.robert-smith.org.uk ), and choir manager Stefan Schwarz. Since David Crown took over as Director of Chapel music in 2007, the choir has been involved in two opera productions (Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas ' and Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice') as well as concerts in Oxford, Brighton, Wells, Swindon, Upton upon Severn and Steeple Aston. In recent years the choir has also sung evensong at Southwark, Worcester, Winchester, Wells and Berlin Cathedrals. "tonight, tonight" is from West Side Story with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and music by Leonard Bernstein. It was adapted for barbershop by Jay Giallombardo and made famous by the quartet "Acoustix". Danny and I transcribed it in the fall of 2008 and it has become one of our favourite songs to sing in the quartet. Also winning ...  moreIn the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral music' the champions competed in, the choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals.
