Special... moreMUNDO AFRIKA is the award-winning world music choir based at Formby High School, in Merseyside. Over the past 12 years, we have trained five generations of young performers from across the school as part of our extra-curricular music programme.
Specialising in acappella African vocals, our performances are enhanced with dynamic percussion and traditional dance. Many arrangements are created by the group's Musical Director, Mr Steve Cook, and by the students themselves. Our repertoire includes a range of traditional and contemporary African songs in a variety of languages.
Over the years, this outstanding group has developed a reputation for thrilling, breathtaking and energetic performances at school concerts and further afield. Over the last few years the choir has enjoyed a growing reputation for its repertoire of outstanding contemporary music alongside the established classics. TCS latest performances included The Creation of Haydn, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Mass in Blue of Todd, Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle. The Choir also perform a Christmas Concert every year. Overall we perform three main concerts a year. During its performances TCS enjoys the participation of professional soloists and orchestras and ensembles.
Phil Culling is our accompanist.
With past successes and imaginative programming, TCS is thriving. We are always glad to welcome new singers, regardless of age; especiallly those who enjoy their music making. We like to rehearse and perform with our sense of humour switched on.

The last three are co-curricular and the last two are student directed.
