Currently in residence at the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the Chorus performs an eclectic range of music, from a cappella compositions to works for chorus and orchestra, from countries around the world. Our diverse repertoire spans the 14th to the 21st centuries, including recent performances of the Brahms Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, as well as new commissions by Kristin Kuster, Elliot Levine, and Jonathan David. Phillip Cheah joined the Chorus as its Music Director in 2010.

“Weep O Mine Eyes” was first published by composer John Bennet (c. 1575-c. 1610) in his first collection of madrigals in 1599. it was one of his most popular madrigals, as well as one of the most internationally famous songs of the period. it is apparently based on John Dowland’s “Flow, my Teares”.
Like Dowland’s lyrics, these lyrics express an intense melancholy of someone whose happiness has been abruptly shattered and desires to not be saved from this dark despair. The speaker wishes his death by drowning in his despair, in his tears. The expression of melancholy, and notions of darkness, neglect, Time’s cruelty, spiteful age, were themes used by Elizabethan songwriters to prefigure the stark inevitability of death, and it remained a prominent feature of English literature and music in the time of Elizabeth I and Shakespeare.

In planning the narrative for this concert, where possible, we named individual victims to lend identity to the anonymity of the masses.
The concert also reflected on modern conflicts with a special focus on the impact of war on ordinary innocent people -refugees, civilians, children and victims of the growth of modern slavery often associated with conflict.
Featuring well loved songs of commemoration, peace, friendship and reconciliation, there was plenty of opportunity to join in, loudly and with meaning - and by being together, singing and making music . 300 plus people were part of what is happening amongst like minded people trying to bring Peace to Planet Earth at this very difficult and troubled time.
