The Society was started in 1960, under our founder Gerald Brown, and we are still going strong. We are now led by James Gallagher, who has been working with us since 2009. We invite local young soloists and professionals to perform with us. Our repertoire ranges from 16th Century works to those of living composers and covers both major serious and popular works.

Each seaSon, the choir presents four or five concerts, incorporating a blend of repertoire from gospel to Sacred to pop to oratorio. Classical highlights include St. Matthew Passion, Elijah, the annual Messiah, Carmina Burana, and Bach's B Minor Mass, which was a crowning achievement for the choir’s 10th and 20th anniversaries. Other popular concerts have featured the musical and comedic talents of Natalie Choquette, the famous and charismatic Michael Burgess, and the stirring sounds of spirituals under the direction of Brainerd Blyden-Taylor, whose own professional chamber choir, The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, headed for Washington to join the celebrations around President Obama’s inauguration. less

Due to its diligent and devoted work, with repertoire including pieces by Croatian and other authors spanning from the Renaissance to the 21st century, the choir reached high quality of interpretation, soon recognized by audience. After many successful performances in Split and the region, the choir started to participate in various national and international choral competitions, having achieved notable results. Thus, the short but interesting history of the choir includes:
- 3rd place at “Croatian Choral Assembly” in 2009 and 2011, and 1st place at this competition in 2010, 2012 and 2013;
- two silver certificates at international choral competition “Slovakia Cantat 2010”;

Formed by Graham Taylor in 1983 as The New Glasgow Singers, a small group of passionate choral singers looking to take on some of the less well-known works in the choral repertoire, it has grown into an organisation that has around 100 members singing a wide range of musical genres but still with the core wish to seek out and perform the less familiar pieces.
We perform a regular series of concerts each year: the details for the current seaSon can be seen here. The range of music includes serious classical works, programmes of choral classics, West End musical pieces and the lighter popular music included in our annual Christmas Cracker concert. Our full repertoire can be seen in our list of past concerts. Some notable highlights have been Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Berlioz’s Grande Messe des Morts and Mahler’s Eighth Symphony - the Symphony of a Thousand. less
