Richly themed programs celebrate the elegant beauty of Renaissance motets, tonal color of modern works, and exotic flavor of music from other cultures. In the beginning, Greenwood Singers specialized in the performance of a cappella music from different stylistic periods. Its programming has now expanded to include works with soloists, instrumental ensembles and chamber orchestra. A versatile ensemble, the choir has performed frequently with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in a wide variety of programs which have included Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Holst’s The Planets, family Christmas concerts, the concert version of Jerome Kern’s Showboat, Orff’s Carmina Burana (with the Alberta Ballet) and the ESO’s 1992 reunion with the British rock group, Procol Harum. They have been auditioned and selected from a program of 250 singers and identified as the cream of the crop based on their beauty of vocal tone, musical intelligence, sight reading ability and academic achievement. They are also instrumentalists, actors, athletes, student leaders and ambassadors of LSHS. Most importantly, they are students who are DEDICATED to being the best they can be. As a result of these high standards, Sounds of Summit has developed a reputation in Lee’s Summit and around the nation as one of the elite high school level performing ensembles. We are frequently asked to perform with UMKC’s Conservatory, as well as multiple appearances at the Missouri Music Educators Convention.
